Semis/Finals Predictions

The season is just about done, and I’m reminded of a poem that I can no longer remember: it was written by a girl in English class, and she envisioned her writing as a wounded soldier, struck down and injured by her teacher’s red pen.  Reading that poem always left me with a sense of sadness, as if her work felt guilt for having failed the writer.  I’m reminded of that, because it makes me wonder if I have been too harsh.  Is it necessary for me to criticize and tear down the players of league and scratch their egos?  Why can’t I just write articles saying how wonderful everyone is, about their great play and the genuine niceness of virtually everyone we know?  Well, the reason is pretty simple: I’m a misanthropic nightmare of a human being; your success (anybody’s really) fills me with a sense of boredom and annoyance, and so, from the black pool of my soulless abyss, I reach up, straining higher and higher, to pull you down.  It’s nothing personal.  I just hate all of you.  Now, on that cheerful note, let’s do predictions!

With all due respect to the “Awards Committee,” I just don’t trust any of you rat bastards to get it right.  You’ll probably appoint the Showkiller to the pantheon of Gods, declare Allee to be woman of the year because she made it to the field like once, and swear that Schimm’s “Shot at the Top” is the team of the year.  A word of advice to all of you scrubs and cretins[1]: leave the heavy lifting to the experts, which as it turns out, is just me.  Now, let’s go.

Most Disappointing Team Performance Award: I bet the so-called Awards committee didn’t include this category!  Our winner- and it shouldn’t be a surprise- is Lyle Brenner’s and Jessica Sockwell’s Forest Picnic Wildfire.  Consider this roster: Phil “I’m not Joe Baker and I am going to Ball the F*** Out” Campbell, Dan “I used to be good in the ‘90s” DePaul, Kellie “I am still awesome” Diehl, Timmy “You know you were an idiot to draft me because the Falcons are playing” Darnell, Corey “I didn’t win a game at Nationals” McCall, Dan “I’m having a flashback to Woodstock” Kahn, and Sara “I’m a Mommy and an entrepreneur, so give me a break!” Puyana.  This squad looks fantastic.  And yet… they’re in the 11 v 12 game.  Honorable Mention: Greathouse’s Navy “Winning is For Losers”: anything other than him being last is a horrid failure of a season.  Thanks for nothing.
