On this day in 1942, the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal took place. Basically, the Japanese and the Americans didn't want this horrible little island in the Pacific, but they both had to try and prevent the other side from getting it. The climax of this struggle was this naval battle, which killed thousands of sailors (plus 3 admirals) in a close quarters, gun battle. After that- like 3 years later- Japan realized the error of their ways and surrendered. See? War is easy.
Today was a fine day of field-disc on a cool, but humid November evening. It must have been 70 or so at first pull. Standard: We had an east-west set with two games of 7/11. The field, of course, is deteriorating, but should hold out until Spring.
Team 1: Ana, Dr. D, Showkiller, Godfather, Johnny, Puller, Polaris, Sebastian, Chris P, and Brian
Team 2: Pilgrim, Jawbreaker (Jbren), Dred, Coach, Kekebus, Jess Lancia, Obama!, Valkyrie, Les, and Coach
Game One: This was actually quite the balanced game, but then at some point, newer players tended to gravitate to the 1s, while the old, grizzled veterans all headed over to the 2s. So, what began as a balanced game, slowly but inevitably turned into a mismatch. Still, it was well played. Promotions and medals for everyone. Final: 11-8, Team 2.
Game Two: This was more of the same, but the situation just wasn’t helped when Puller left because he had things to do on a Friday night, and then I had to withdraw due to a shoe malfunction. The 1s did make a game of it, but they were just outmatched. Final: 11-6, Team 2.
LoSG: No
Points: 14-22 (That’s a good ol’ fashioned whoopin’)
Schedule: League on Sunday at 2pm, Game Wednesday at 7pm, Game Friday at 6pm.
