On this day in 1916, the Battle of the Somme came to an end, and was considered by everyone to be a stunning victory. After 4 months of glorious, victorious fighting, the British and French advanced 6 whole miles, at the incredibly cheap price of 600,000 men. On top of that, the Germans lost a whole 600,000 men as well. So really, if you break it down, only 200,000 men were killed or maimed for every mile. The battle was so successful that the war ended right after that- like two years later.
Today was a fine day of field-disc, and I'm happy to report that nobody was killed or maimed this evening. Instead, here's the standard report: we had two games of 7/11 and 7/9 with an east-west set and humid, moderate November conditions. I think it was close to 70 at first pull.
Team 1: Coach, Zen, Kink, Josh, Sebastian, Diesel, Obama! and Josh
Team 2: Seth, Godfather, Johnny, Dr. D, Puller, Valkyrie and Wheels
Game One: I firmly believed that the spread was huge against the 1s, but I refused to change teams because I'm tired of getting my ass kicked. Plus, the 1s didn't say anything, so it was game on! The 1s, to my surprise, dominated in the warm ups. Unfortunately, they peaked too soon. The 2s easily cruised. Final: 11-5, Team 2.
Game Two: This was more of the same. Both squads ran a lot of zone just for the hell of it. Final: 9-4, Team 2.
LoSG: Nope
Points: 9-20 (extremely lopsided)
Schedule: Game Friday at 6pm, League on Sunday at 2pm (last day) and regular play next Wednesday at 7.
