On this day in 1943, the battle of Tarawa took place. Tarawa is a little atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The highlight was US soldiers wading through chest high water for 500 yards to reach the beach. Oh, and there was machine gun fire- lots and lots of machine gun fire. And bombs too.
Today was a fine evening of field-disc, though those annoying little poll things were all up. On the plus side, not too many people wanted to play. I’m not sure why, but we did manage to scrape together a couple of games. Standard: Maybe 70 at first pull with an east-west set. We had two games of 4/11 (sort of- the actual number varied), and everything was fine, though parking and ultimate and soccer kids are just killing that field.
Team 1: Les, Kink, Johnny, Showkiller, and Coach
Team 2: Obama!, Dred, Jawbreaker, Ana, and Godfather
Game One: The 1s held an early lead, but brilliant play by Scott in particular elevated the 2s, and they were able to cruise to a four point win. Final: 11-7, Team 2.
Game Two: In this one, great play by Johnny and Show brought the 1s a big win. No turns were tracked in this game, just simply because it was too ugly. Note: an Obama! playing without the fear of recorded turns is a scary thing. Final: 11-7, Team 1.
LoSG: Yes, it occurred to perfection.
Points: 18-18
Schedule: League WAS on Sunday and is now done. Game Weds at 7pm, Friday at 6pm, and then Sunday at Citizens at 330pm.
