On this day in 1972, a Japanese ultra-nationalist named Yukio Mishima committed ritual seppuku, which basically consists of taking a samurai sword, making a horizontal deep cut across your belly, and then swinging the sword up, behind your ribcage, so that the tip of the sword pops out of your neck. I know this, because this guy was a writer, and I had to read a short story in college which consisted of the protagonist and his wife doing this. The one image that sticks with me: after her husband dies, she wanders around the house with socks that squish out blood every time she takes a step. Eww.
Today was a fine day of field-disc as the 1s and 2s did battle on a cool, humid evening. Standard: We had one game of 4/11 with an east-west set. The air was cool, and probably in the high 60s at first pull.
It should be noted that Tim showed up a touch late, so there was debate about which team he should join. Eventually, a complicated trade was worked out, and the teams were quite well balanced.
Team 1: D-machine, Zen, Obama! and London
Team 2: Godfather, Square, Dred, and Dr. D
The game: This was a great game, with the 1s holding a very slim lead for most of the game, with sloppy and good play by all. D-machine was a hot target by London, while both Dr. D and Dred had the hot throwing hands by the 2s. At the very end, the 2s scored, got a break, and then scored again on Universe. In a game that went All the live long day, the 2s take it. Final: 13-12, Team 2.
LoSG: By definition, no.
Points: 12-13
Schedule: Game Friday (6pm), Sunday AT CITIZENS at 330pm and then Wednesday at 7pm
